MARCO VALLEJO COSTUME MADE
Born in Mexico City, Marco Vallejo moved to Denmark in 1989, and started of working as an artist in the amazing workshops at B&W in Christianshavn. After successful exhibitions at several galleries and museums in Denmark, Mexico and USA, both with sculptures and jewellery, Marco and and his former spouse, Carolina Vallejo, decided to open their own work shop-gallery when an old goldsmith at Christianshavn was closing. In 1994 they opened the shop Santamaria. It became an instant success. The fashion magazines and newspapers, were in line, bringing the, at the time, unusual pieces regularly, and the demand was large. Several interviews, features, where publishes and fashion shows, music videos, TV shows and even theater used jewellery made by the couple at Santamaria.
Marco had been living for some years in one of Mexico´s most artistic and inspirational towns, San Miguel de Allende. Here he was selling his magic pieces to numerous people, in exclusive small shops, or for galleries in the USA. With his background as autodidact artesanian, it was always easy for him to adapt new styles, and yet always looking for ways of keeping his personal expressions. In San Miguel his styles where almost instantly copied by the other artisans, and he would therefor always invent new things. He has developed his own way of working directly with the material in an ever curious and inspired creative method. You will always be able to recognise 'a Marco piece'.
